Make a sales receipt in three steps

When a sales receipt is the right document
Use a sales receipt when the buyer pays on the spot — at a stall, after a delivery paid on arrival, or for a one-off sale to a customer who wants proof of purchase. If the buyer will pay later, send an invoice instead and issue a receipt when the money arrives.
Itemize — it answers the questions that come later
A total on its own says how much changed hands; the item lines say what for. That is what a buyer needs for a return or an exchange, a warranty claim, or an expense report, and it is what you need when you reconcile stock at the end of the day. Number your receipts in sequence so every sale can be found again.

What is a sales receipt?
A sales receipt records a sale that was paid for at the time it was made: what was sold, how many, the price of each, any tax, the total and how the buyer paid. Unlike an invoice, nothing is owed afterwards — the receipt confirms the sale is complete.
What should a sales receipt include?
Your business name and contact details, the date, a receipt number, each item with quantity and unit price, the subtotal, any sales tax, the total, and the payment method. Add the buyer’s name if they want it for their own records. The template above has a field for each.
How do I add sales tax?
Set the tax rate in the totals section and choose whether your prices already include tax or tax is added on top. The receipt then shows the subtotal, the tax amount and the total separately. Sales-tax rules depend on where you sell, so check the rate that applies to you.
Can I use a different currency?
Yes. Pick the currency before you download; the amounts on the PDF are formatted in that currency.
