Contractors, cleaners, photographers and freelancers mostly need the same thing — a price in writing that looks considered, goes out the same day, and turns into an invoice without retyping when it is accepted.
What belongs on an estimate
- Both parties — your business and the client, with contact details.
- A number and dates — an estimate number, the date, and a valid-until date.
- Line items — the work, with quantity, unit price and a line total.
- Tax and totals — a single rate, per-line tax, or tax-inclusive pricing.
- Notes — what the price covers, and what would change it.
Estimate, quote or quotation
All three words describe the same document. The PDF is headed Estimate, the term most clients and tools expect, and carries an automatic note that it is not a tax invoice. If you would rather the page talk about quotes, the free quote template is the same tool with quote wording.
